What Our Clients Say

Would it be better to acquire new Machismo 500's or buy and renovate a couple of the older cast iron engined 500's for a road trip back to the UK? You seem to be the experts, perhaps you could advise us.

Restoring Old Royal Enfields

Classic Transfers Finish the detail of your Restored Royal Enfield BulletMany customers are choosing to restore older models of Royal Enfield, typically those whose year of manufacture renders them exempt from recent vehicle specification requirements of their home country.

Soni Motors will discuss, advise and agree on every detail of your restoration project prior to selecting and fitting components.

However there are growing numbers of customers who come to us with their old Royal Enfields for restoration. Restoration of a Royal Enfield means just that, we restore your motorcycle to a better-than-new condition with the correct look and feel of a classic motorcycle.

Choose from a wide range of classic colour schemes All internal moving parts within the engine and gearbox are replaced with original or after-market spare of the highest quality.

This includes the cylinder head, valve gear, cylinder barrel, piston, connecting rod, crank, oil pump, timing gears, oil seals, gear clusters, bearings and bushes etc. All the paintwork will be stripped down, checked for defects, if necessary remedial welding will be carried out. Wheels, fork legs, fork springs, wheels, wiring harnesses, lights and indicators, locks and switchgear are all replaced.

As the old bike is stripped down lists are made of new parts required.Engine casings bear two numbers - Matched engine casings numbers and an Engine/Frame NumberFinally everything to be painted is primed and repainted in the agreed colour scheme, including line work, lettering and original or after-market transfers.

The only things that are not changed are outer engine/gearbox casings and frames (chassis). This ensures that your Royal Enfield motorcycle remains a legal entity with matching Chassis and Engine Numbers.

When restoring your Royal Enfield we follow a routine that ensures all components fit correctly, both in appearance and integrity. Everything is stripped from the original Royal Enfield.

Engine Numbers are checked against Frame Numbers for originalityFrame components are stripped of paint and thoroughly checked for cracked welds and other defects. Engines are stripped completely cleaned and checked for damage and wear. All other casings* can be replaced as necessary together with all new internal moving components. Frame defects are rectified and are brought back to original condition.

When an undercoat has been applied to the frame, tank and tool boxes etc a first time assembly is carried out. All components are checked for correct fitting, alignment and function. When your restored Royal Enfield is fully assembled, we road test it over about 100kms to ensure that all fitting problems and rattles have been eradicated.

Base metal condition is checked prior to paint prep-workWhen we are satisfied the assembly is correct and working well, we again disassemble everything, finish the paintwork together with transfers, give casings a final polishing and reassembly your restored Royal Enfield. We carry out a final road test and make any necessary adjustments to the controls and your restored Royal Enfield is ready for delivery.

*Your restored Royal Enfield will retain its original engine casings as these are manufactured in matched pairs and bear the motorcycle’s original Engine Number. The frame bears the same identification number stamped at the top of the front down-tube and this together with the same numbered engine, make the frame and engine a matched pair and hence a legal vehicle. Your restored Royal Enfield comes with the correct registration papers.
