If a customer requires a Carnet de Passage to cross a number of countries en-route to or from their home country, we can offer advice on how to go about this process. Typically a carnet de passage is issued through local automobile clubs in your home country.
Documents Required You will have to Submit the completed Carnet de Passage application form, along with: - a copy of your passport or identification card
- a copy of the vehicle registration document
- a copy of the bank transfer of Carnet fee and/ or cash deposit (Credit Cards are not accepted.)
Extension of your Carnet de Passage If your vehicle cannot be re-exported from a country during the period of validity of your Carnet de Passage, it is possible to extend the validity of the document typically for 3 months. However, this can only be done in a country with a national automobile club. There are different provisions for different countries, so be sure to ask at your local autoobile club in good time before your planned departure. Apply for an extension at least 6 weeks prior to expiry of validity with your own automobile club and the foreign automobile club. The approval of the foreign customs authority is the precondition for extending the Carnet. Upon approval of the customs authority the partner club will notify us and ask for authorisation. Typcailly extensions will be authorised on receipt of the extension fee (on a pro-rate basis of the issue charge) paid by bank transfer or in cash. An extended Carnet de Passage is only valid in the country in which it was extended. If it originated in Europe then It may only be used for re-exportation to Europe. Return / Onward journey If you intend to continue your journey to other countries, you will need a new Carnet de Passage, a so-called follow-up Carnet. Please apply for it 6 - 8 weeks prior to expiry of the validity with your automobile club's head office. For issue, all documents as with the first Carnet are required. The deposit can be transferred, if the amount of the deposit is sufficient for the other destinations. The issue fee has to be paid again, the deposit may have to be raised. The current table of fees prevails. On exit the old Carnet has to be stamped and the new Carnet de Passage has to be presented for entering the next country. |
